The Church After

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20

The Baiima Community Bible Church was established in 2008 by the Sierra Leone Christian Mission. For four years, services were conducted in a mud hut, while the sanctuary was being built. The church was dedicated in December 2011, the sanctuary seats 200 people.

The Church has evangelized, counseled and baptized over 150 new converts ranging from the age of 5 to 78 years. Over 150 people attend Sunday morning worship services. The town is almost predominantly Muslim, about half of the attendees on Sundays are young adults and children. Bible study is held every Friday from 5 – 7 pm.  The “Proclaimer,” an audio recording of the complete Bible in the Mende language, is used.

The Church and its ministries are a significant part of the community, and it attracts the youth and young adults. The church has a dedicated full-time Pastor, Daniel Ellie, who has been with the ministry since it started in 2008. A choirmaster, Samuel Lamin, a church secretary, Aruna Brima, and a security guard, Abdulai Mustapha.  The pastor and his family live on campus.

Every year, the church conducts a revival service which is held in the town’s community hall.  Attendance at these revivals attracts people from all the nearby villages.  Many people, both young and old, respond to the invitation to surrender their life to Christ.  Follow-up is done by the pastor and church staff.  In 2017, a revival was conducted in Taway, a village about three miles from Baiima.  Pastors from other churches and some of their members attended.  The “Proclaimer” An audio recording of the whole Bible was used.  It attracted people to come to the revival when they heard God speaking in their language.
